Hi, I'm Tim Watts MP, your Federal Labor Member of Parliament.
I represent the seat of Gellibrand, the gateway to Melbourne’s thriving western suburbs. If you haven’t lived in Melbourne’s West before, you’ll find that we have a real sense of community here. We live in a community where people know their neighbours, participate in countless volunteer groups and celebrate together in an extraordinary range of cultural festivals.
Melbourne’s West is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, so we’re seeing quite a bit of change at the moment, but we’re trying to protect this sense of community.
Melbourne’s West has a long history as a manufacturing and transport hub for Victoria, and we’re still home to significant major industries. But over time, we’ve become much more. We’re home to a vibrant community of artists, writers, cultural institutions and education hubs. Their work, and the many festivals we host throughout the year, have contributed to a thriving creative and artistic community in Melbourne’s West.
We are also one of the most diverse electorates in the country. Nearly 2/3rds of the residents of Gellibrand were born overseas or have a parent born overseas. We’ve been the welcoming mat for generations of new Australians
Since being elected in 2013, I've worked hard to represent the interests of our community in Parliament.
This website is one of the platforms for you to keep in touch with me as your local Federal member of Gellibrand. I'll try to keep you posted on what I'm doing in parliament, and what's happening on the ground in the electorate.
